North Harbour on Bike
In 2014 the establishment of a new city district, The North Harbour, started to take shape. On this biking tour you will experience the development of The North Harbour of Copenhagen close hand.
Start: ‘Nordhavn’ Metro station, Østbanegade 120
Finish: Helsinkigade 29, 2100 Copenhagen Ø (at the exhibition about the North Harbour)
When: Wednesday 29th of April, 1.5 hours, from 09.00-10.30, 9 km distance
Price: 150 DKK/20 €
The North Harbour of Copenhagen is undergoing a development from industrial harbour to a modern, sustainable neighbourhood with recreational, urban areas. On this biking tour we will experience the development close hand.
The tour starts at the train station Nordhavn and from there we bike to the far northern tip of the area where the development is quickly starting to gain pace.
On the 9 kilometer route, you will learn about the famous Danish architect Jørn Utzon and his son Kim Utzon’s buildings in the ‘Kalkbrænderihavn’ (the harbour of the limestone factory), the fishing harbour and the brand new Cruise Liner Terminal where the view of Copenhagen is magnificent.
Discover the long term development plans that will change the expression and aesthetics of the area over the next 50 years – while still keeping the industrial atmosphere.
The biking tour ends in the heart of the new ‘Århusgade’ neighbourhood. Here you can experience the exhibition SKY AND SEA! in the 62 meters and 17-storey tall buidling ‘THE SILO’, which COBE is now transforming into 40 departments. The exhibition gives a great overview of the new North Harbour district and explains the choices and ideas behind the master plan.
